Dry skin can feel tight and rough especially after a face wash. It can also get itchy and irritated and lower your self-esteem. Luckily, a face mask for dry skin can do wonders to your skin by restoring the moisture in your skin to make it look healthy and soft.

You can get a face mask at your local drugstore or beauty shop but if you are more inclined to natural products, then you will delight in the following dry skin face masks.

The face is the focal point of our body and if the face starts to show signs of dryness, bringing moisture back is a must do.

To achieve this, you can use natural face masks made from natural products available in your home (such as the ones we will see below). Those that may not be available in your kitchen, e.g. avocadoes, can easily be acquired at your local retail store or supermarket.

  • As much as possible try to use the face mask immediately when it is still fresh. But if you have some extra face mask remaining after application, you can keep it refrigerated for a week maximum.
  • Don’t wear face masks for longer period than the recommended.
  • As the face mask works on your skin, relax by lying down with your eyes closed, listening to your favorite music, or by reading your favorite book or novel. It is up to you to decide what gets you relaxed.
  • Make sure your face is clean and free of makeup before applying the face mask. A mild facial cleanser is recommended for people with dry skin. You can as well choose to exfoliate with a facial scrub before removing the makeup in your skin with a makeup remover.

Common Homemade Face Masks for Dry Skin

Once your face is clean and free of makeup, it is time to apply your face mask. Here are some common homemade face masks for dry skin that you may want to consider.

Avocado and Honey Face Mask for Dry Skin

Avocado contains natural oils and vitamin E and is a very effective moisturizer for dry skin. Honey is also great in moisturising the skin and a combination of honey and avocado is great for wrinkled and dry skin. The avocado you use should however be fresh and ripe for best results. Some people also prefer organic avocadoes.

Preparation:

Mash or blend a ½ ripe avocado into a creamy pulp. Add ¼ cup honey and stir until the mixture becomes smooth. Apply the mixture to your skin, leaving out the eye area, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally rinse your face with lukewarm water (not hot).

Milk Face Mask for Dry Skin

When it comes to moisturizing dry skin, milk is one great, classic choice.

Preparation:

Mix 1 tbsp powdered milk with 1 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp aloe Vera gel, and 2 drops of essential oil, then stir thoroughly to get a smooth mixture. Apply it to the face and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it off with warm water.

Banana and Yoghurt Facial Mask

Yoghurt moisturizes the face while ate the same time exfoliating it by getting rid of any dead skin cells.

Preparation

Place half a banana (peeled) in a bowl and mash it well with a fork before adding 4 tbsp plain yoghurt. Stir well until smooth, and then apply to your skin, leaving it intact for 10-15 minutes. Finally, wash it off with warm water.

Honey Face Mask for Dry Skin

Honey can be used with milk, avocado (as above), or egg.

To use honey and egg, you only need the yolk.  Start by separating it from the whole egg in a bowl. Once you have the yolk in another bowl, add 1 tbsp honey and stir until smooth. Now apply to your face and wash it off with warm water after 10 to 15 minutes.

For honey, you need two tablespoons of homey and two teaspoons of milk. Simply mix the two, thoroughly in a bowl and apply to you face for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Moisturizing Face Mask for Dry Skin

As we have mentioned above a moisturizing face masks are great for healing dry skin that feels tight especially after washing.

Avocadoes and honey are two popular ingredients for moisturizing face masks for dry skin. Avocado has natural oils and is rich in natural oils that not only moisturizes the skin but also soothes it.

Honey is as well greatly moisturizing to the skin despite being a natural astringent. It is thus not surprising that a significant number of homemade moisturizing face masks for dry skin have honey and/or avocado as one of the ingredients.

People are also increasingly embracing the addition of anti-oxidizing effect to homemade facemasks using ingredients such as carrots. Most skin care experts recommend using moisturizing face masks after exfoliating the skin with facial scrubs. Among the most commonly used homemade facial scrubs is brown sugar facial scrub.

Face Mask for Dry Skin and Acne

If you skin is dry, sensitive, and prone to acne, honey and yoghurt are two great ingredient that soothes even the most sensitive of skins. Yoghurt is rich in lactic acid while honey is natural humectants that keep the skin moisturized while acting as a microbial agent- important for acne prone skins.

Here is a simple face mask for dry and acne prone skin that you may want to try:

Preparation:

Mix 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt and 1 tablespoonful of honey in a small bowl. Drop 5 uncoated aspirin tablets into the bowl and add a little water to make them dissolve faster before applying the mixture on your face. Leave for 10-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

However, you shouldn’t use this face mask if you are allergic to aspirin.

DIY Face Mask for Dry Skin

You have probably heard about DIY face masks for dry skin and wondered what these one are. Well the term DIY is just a fancy acronym for Do-It-Yourself. All the honey and avocado homemade face masks that we have discussed above fit into the description of DIY, but for the sake of giving credit to the inventor of this word J let us look at one more facemask that you can make at home.

DIY Oatmeal Face Mask for Dry Skin

Oatmeal is a superb skin care ingredient that has for along time been used in facial masks. The avenanthramides found in oatmeal have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe dry and sensitive skin.

Preparation:

Mix ¼ cup of finely ground oats, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt in a bowl and stir thoroughly to get a smooth paste. Apply the paste to your face and leave it intact for fifteen to twenty minutes before washing off with warm water.
